Lucas County OKs 2 new handball courts |
| County commissioners yesterday approved construction of two one-walled handball courts at the Lucas County Recreation Center in Maumee in hopes of increasing use of the center. The Toledo Handball Club, which has about 100 members, holds tournaments at the recreation center year-round, using the recreation center's eight three-walled handball courts. It hosts a two-day tournament each June that draws people from all over the Midwest. Each Labor Day, the club hosts the National U.S. Handball Association three-wall tournament. Between 300 and 400 players from the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, and Ireland compete in the five-day event. |
